For the sake of balance.
Whenever I agree with something or think my viewpoint is obviously the correct one, I like to see what the other side says. I'd be curious to know if there have been any "scientific studies" of what Canadians really do think of their health care system. Because they obviously don't all view it the same way.

I could only watch so much of those before my brain threatened to leave my skull.
ReplyDeleteFirstly, the idea that a hospital or a doctor is bad because they desire to make a profit is ridiculous. I guess all of you out there who try to make more money at your jobs than is required to pay your bills are just as evil. Also, if that hospital is breaking a law (it's just under investigation now), it's because the law is completely insane! Not being able to bill for necessary surgery? Who decides what is necessary? I'm going to go ahead and guess government bureaucracy, not the patient. Not that it makes breaking the law (if they did it) right, but the law itself is completely insane and why so many southern California hospitals had to close. Need surgery but can't pay for it? Don't worry, the hospital must soak up the cost until it goes bankrupt and then it can serve no one.
The fact is that despite how many times the woman in the first video tried to make it sound like aborting babies, providing services for money is what our economy is based upon (the US one, at least). Of COURSE businesses will try to maximise profits! That's how they stay in business, unlike the government which can simply run up huge deficits and continue to print money and redistribute wealth.
I don't need to view a bunch of Canadians saying how much they like free healthcare. Who the heck wouldn't like their healthcare to be free? The fact is that if you only need a prescription refilled or something of that nature, everything is fine. But if you need sergury in a hurry, well, good luck on that waiting list. Or you can come to the United States and pay for it...
...for a little while longer, at least.
Upon thinking more on this all, I am not opposed to government involvement in healthcare, but I am VERY OPPOSED to FEDERAL government involvement in how healthcare is run. LOCAL government (the more local the better) is an excellent way to keep accountability and maintain choice for people. Don't like how something is being run? Move to a different town/state/etc. Like how one town runs their show? Time to move there.
ReplyDeleteAdditionally, I don't think that what we have now for a system is great in the U.S. That said, I haven't spent a great deal of time thinking about what would be better. But, I am very hesitant to favor anything that includes move government. Because after you get government involved in something (especially services) it is extremely difficult to go back...
