Cell phone vs. the Bible

I heard this on the radio while I was driving to work this morning. I think this is a challenge we could all benefit from! I know I could! Let me know what you think!

I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phones?

What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?

What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?

What if we flipped through it several times a day?

What if we used it to receive messages from the ‘text’?

What if we treated it like we couldn’t live without it?

What if we gave it to kids as gifts?

What if we used it as we traveled?

What if we used it in case of an emergency?

What if we upgraded it to get the latest version?

This is something to make you go…hmmm…where is my Bible?

Oh, and one more thing. Unlike our cell phone, we don’t ever have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus has already paid the bill!

Easter Story Cookies

Hello and Happy Resurrection Day to everyone! This is something my parents did with us when we were kids, and I thought maybe some of you might enjoy it with your children (when they are older), and with future children. I'm looking forward to someday teaching our children Bible stories, and I think it's great to have something for them to do to help them remember. But, I thought this was cute, and wanted to share it with you!

Easter Story Cookies

to be made the evening before Easter
You need:
1 c. whole pecans
1 tsp. vinegar
3 egg whites
pinch salt
1 c. sugar
zipper baggie
wooden spoon
tape
Bible

Preheat oven to 300 degrees

Place pecans in zipper baggie and let children beat them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested He was beaten by the Roman soldiers. John 19: 1-3

Let each child smell the vinegar. Put 1 tsp. into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross, He was given vinegar to drink. John 19:28-30

Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life. John 10:10-11

Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus' followers, and the bitterness of our own sin. Luke 23:27

So far the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add 1c. sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us. He wants us to know and belong to Him. Psalms 34:8 John 3:16

Beat with a mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus. Isa. 1:18 John 3:1-3

Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto wax paper covered cookie sheet. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid. Matt. 27:57-60.

Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and turn the oven OFF. Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus' tomb was sealed. Matt. 27:65-66

GO TO BED! Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed. John 16:20 and 22.

On Easter morning, Open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow!!! On the first Easter, Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty.!!! Matt. 28:1-9

A Remarkable Puzzle

Randy and I had a contest to see who could do this fastest. I won but it took us both an hour at least...I forget how long exactly! Try your luck if you want to drive yourself nuts for a good chunk of time. One hint I wish I would have known definitively beforehand--no book names begin on one line and continue on the next (which was tricky to make sure of on this blog, I must say!) :-)

Can you find the names of 25 books of the Bible in this
paragraph? This is a most remarkable puzzle. Someone
found it in the seat pocket on a flight from Los Angeles to
Honolulu, keeping himself occupied for hours. One man
from Illinois worked on this while fishing from his john boat.
Roy Clark studied it while playing his banjo. Elaine Victs
mentioned it in her column once. One woman judges the job
to be so involving, she brews a cup of tea to help calm her
nerves. There will be some names that are really easy to
spot...that's a fact. Some people will soon find themselves
in a jam, especially since the book names are not necessarily
capitalized. The truth is, from answers we get, we are forced
to admit it usually takes a minister or scholar to see some of
them at the worst. Something in our genes is responsible for
the difficulty we have. Those able to find all of them will hear
great lamentations from those who have to be shown.
One revelation may help, books like Timothy and Samuel may occur without their numbers. And punctuation or spaces in the middle are normal. A chipper attitude will help you compete. Remember, there are 25 books of the Bible lurking somewhere in this paragraph.

Carol Game

This might be fun for you to do! And, I don't think it take any research to know if it's real or not.

Loving Spirit

I was unsure of whether to post this or not, but I figured we could all use the reminder. Even if we don't have any annoying relatives, we all need to be reminded to show Christ's love to our family, friends, and people we meet. Not only around Christmas time, but all through the year.

Christmas trees

I thought this was really neat! It's nice to see trees from around the world. Makes me want to travel and go see them!
